New search for girl’s body
WOLLONGONG: Police are planning a new search for the body of five year old Renee Aitkin who vanished 10 weeks ago from her home in Narooma.
Renee disappeared during the night from the bedroom she shared with her brother, Bradley, 8.
Superintendent Kevin Lawler, of Wollongong, said yesterday it would be at least three weeks before the police needed for this fourth search would be available.
“We’ve got too many on leave at the moment to raise the numbers, and there’ll be more sitting for exams during the May holidays,” he said.
Early this month Chief Inspector Bob Snape, of Wollongong, said research in Victoria had led them to conclude that Renee had been murdered and that her body was somewhere around Narooma.

Embalmed bodies in family crypt damaged: police
SYDNEY: Two embalmed bodies tampered with at the Northern Suburbs Cemetery was “the most offensive case” a senior policeman has had to handle, a police statement said yesterday.
Police would not divulge how the bodies had been damaged but the statement said the family vault housing the bodies had been forced open.
The two embalmed bodies were tampered with between September 23 and November 2 this year during a break-and-enter on the vault.
The bodies had been secured in lead-lined coffins in the crypt.
“I have been a member of the police for more than 30 years and this is the most offensive case I have dealt with in my career,” Ryde Patrol Commander Inspector Dennis Percy said in the statement.
Police were appealing to anyone who may have information on the incident.

City’s finest to reunite

Former local police officers have already begun telling tales of the good old days ahead of a reunion next year.
Ray Gardoll, who served with the local police force from 1995 to 2009, has started to get inquiries from as far away as Thailand about the two-day event planned in May.
Even a 95-year-old former sergeant has put his hand up to make the trek back to the Hill for the occasion. After he got word on the street, former sergeant Reg Pinkerton rang the local police station to confirm details.
Sergeant Pinkerton retired around 1979. As well as Broken Hill, he served at Albion Park, Mullumbimby and Nowendock, where he was issued a horse and had the assistance of “black trackers” to look for stolen cattle throughout the local ranges.
One local bloke reported he had been “saved from a life of crime by a swift boot up the bum from Sgt Pinkerton back in the day”.
Many locals would remember one of the city’s longest serving police officers, Garry Nowlan, who has been in fine form posting old pictures and yarns on the Back to Barrier Facebook site.
The former highwayman rated the Ford 351 GT/XB 2 door Hardtop as the best patrol car he ever had the pleasure to drive.
“It was easy to catch the hoodlums at the Hill in those days,” Nowlan wrote.
“If they got away, you just parked in Argent Street for a while and they were back in 10 minutes.
“They just could not resist doing ‘the lap’ and we were there waiting for them.”
Ray Gardoll got the idea for the Back to Barrier reunion after celebrating a similar event in Blacktown, NSW, earlier this year.
“I had a ball, an absolute ball, and I thought I would do it here and see what the response is … and the response has been great.”
He said word was beginning to spread, and about 300 people had logged on and liked the Facebook page, with about three quarters of those having served in the local district.
The Barrier police region stretches from Tibooburra in the north to Wentworth, Dareton and Buronga in the south, to Ivanhoe in the east.
Ray said about ten local retired officers still lived in the Hill.
Ray’s own career was cut short when a “drunken crook” tripped over and destroyed his knee.
“We were carrying her out to put her in the cells, and she tripped and fell and grabbed the first thing she could, and it just happened to be my knee,” Ray said.
Ray said he would love to hear from anyone who would be interested in the reunion, and he would be forming a committee in the next few months to work out and organise the finer details of the event.

A tribute to a special friend Sergeant Bruce Magee
The generosity of ones wisdom, is a statement of kindness, never surpassed in the history of time. When one of patience and understanding, pauses to advise and direct young people, and point them in the right direction, its a true sign of humility and caring. Over the years this man has nurtured the careers of hundreds of young Police Officers, at the Goulburn Police Academy, and on behalf of these Police Officers, serving and retired, we say thank you for your interest, for your patience, and your guidance and your friendship and your knowledge; and for just being the man you are. Yes Bruce Magee, you have made a difference in the lives of many of these young Trainees at the Academy, always encouraging them daily to reach beyond their goals, and to strive to be respected, and to be a competent Police Officer, within your community. I thank you Sir, and salute you for your fine Service.

Ladies and Gents,
Its with heavy hearts that we advise of the passing of highly respected former WAPOL Senior Constable Garin Collins 11141, who sadly took his own life at Joondalup in Perth’s north earlier this week.
Our deepest and sincere condolences to Garin’s family, friends and to his life long blue brothers and sisters.
Lets not dwell on how he died, but rather how he lived…
JUFC to wear black armbands as mark of respect for former player Garin Collins
Joondalup United is saddened to hear news of the passing of former midfielder Garin Collins earlier this week.
Edinburgh native Collins was an integral part of the JUFC team which won the 2014 State League Division Two title without losing a game.
Dubbed ‘The Invincibles’ for their achievement, the talented side conquered the Division at the first attempt following their promotion from the Amateur League, and Collins was the Coach’s Player of the Year.
“Garin was different class the year we went unbeaten in State League Division Two and he easily won our Coach’s Player of the Year,” said JUFC NPL Operations Manager Rudy Proctor, who was part of the first team coaching staff at the time.
“His quality on the ball and will to win were on another level; when he crossed that white line all that mattered to him was winning and he dragged his team mates along with him.
“He would run through a brick wall for his team mates and coaching staff to get three points.”
As well as JUFC, Collins played for a number of Perth clubs, including Floreat Athena, ECU Joondalup, Quinns and Cockburn City, during an excellent career at State League level.
“We are all gutted at JUFC, and we especially gutted for his young children and his family in both Scotland and Australia,” said Proctor.
“Our thoughts are also with his best mate and current JUFC player Ross Edwards, I have no idea how those close to him must be feeling but we are all thinking of them and will do what we can to make things easier in any way possible.
“Rest in peace, Garin, you will forever be a JUFC Invincible.”
JUFC’s NPL first team will wear black armbands as a tribute to Collins for this Saturday’s game against Bayswater City, and everyone at the club offers their condolences to his family and friends.

RIP GARIN COLLINS
West Australian football is in shock following the sudden death of the likeable Scot Garin Collins.
The left-sided frontman first played for Sorrento in 1994 and over the years turned out for such clubs as ECU Joondalup, Bassendean Caledonian, Floreat Athena, Mandurah City, Wanneroo City, Joondalup United, Canning City and Quinns winning many awards along the journey.
He was an integral part of ‘The Invincibles’ when Joondalup United clinched the 2014 State League D2 championship without defeat – after shifting from the amateur ranks the season prior. Proof of his impact came in the form of the Coach’s Player of the Year award.
“His quality on the ball and will to win were on another level,” said Rudy Proctor, Joodalup’s NPL Operations Manager.
A Hibbees fan from Edinburgh, Garin passed away earlier this week – he had turned 38 last month.
JUFC’s NPL first team will wear black armbands against Bayswater City this Saturday.
The Western Australian football family offers its deepest sympathy to Garin’s family and friends.
