Car Hits Woman, Then Crashes Into Police

A car, after colliding with a woman, swerved, into a Far-western Division police wireless car on Woodville Road, Villawood, last night.

The woman, Mrs. Alice Mary Crawford, of Norton Avenue, Bankstown, was admitted to Parramatta District Hospital with shock and a deep laceration to her back.

The driver of the police car, Constable Jack Beswick, was kept under observation for an hour then allowed to leave the hospital.

Police later charged a man, with driving under the influence of alcohol.

Police in the patrol car said they were driving along Woodville Road towards Liverpool, when a car shot past them and hit Mrs. Crawford, who was walking on the right-hand side of the road with her husband.

The car then swerved to the left of the road, crashed into the patrol car and careered across a small ditch to a fence.

The woman’s husband, Mr. Frank Crawford, said: “My wife was jerked away from my arm and hurled about 10 feet in front of me.”

A heartbroken wife has penned a letter to her husband who took his final breath almost three years after their four-month-old daughter’s death.

David Campbell, a NSW police officer, died on May 8, a day before Mother’s Day, leaving behind his wife Michelle, their two daughters Harper and Meadow, and his stepson Cooper.

His death devastated his family who were still grieving of losing four-month-old Aspen in 2018.

In an open letter to David, Michelle described him as the ‘most gentle, loving and kind daddy’ and said she will miss him forever.

in an open letter to David, Michelle described him as the ‘most gentle, loving and kind daddy’ and said she will miss him forever.

‘I never would have thought my heart would endure this much heartbreak in one lifetime,’ she wrote.

‘My heart is so heavy, so broken. I just can’t fathom how this is real, how you are no longer here on earth.’

Michelle said she was shocked by his sudden death and wished he could see how loved and missed he was already.

‘You and the kids are my whole world I don’t know how I will go on without you by my side, I know I will, have to for the kids but this is not the way it was suppose to be babe, we still had a lifetime together,’ she said.

‘I hope you are at peace now, I hope you have found our Aspen girl and are giving her the biggest hug. Cuddle her for me and tell her Mummy loves her.

‘I love you endlessly babe, I wish my love and the love of your girls could have kept you here with us.’

‘My heart will forever ache for you.’

Stacey Hollands, Michelle’s cousin, launched a GoFundMe page to help the family financially as she braces for the future without her husband.

The community rallied to support the family, with the fundraising campaign so far reaching $15,920 of its $100,000 goal.

The tragedy comes almost three years after the couple lost their four-month-old daughter Aspen in 2018

Tributes have begun pouring in on social media for the father-of-three, who was remembered as a ‘beautiful’ person.

‘My heart is absolutely shattered for you. David was such a beautiful daddy, husband and friend. He will be truly missed. RIP Dave,’ one friend wrote on Michelle’s Instagram page.

‘My heart and soul is broken today. I never ever would have thought one family, one beautiful family could possibly endure so much heartache. I will treasure every single memory of him,’ another person wrote.

Help Michelle & Her Beautiful Children

Hi Everyone,

David CAMPBELL

My beautiful cousin Michelle – Mish, lost her sweet and loving husband David on Saturday who is now at peace. Michelle has endured so much heart ache in her life as only 2 years ago she tragically lost her beautiful daughter Aspen at 4 months old. Mish is the most sweetest and kind hearted soul who would be there for anyone in a heart beat.

I would love all your support to help ease some financial stress on Michelle and her beautiful young family.

A note from Michelle below;

I never would have thought my heart would endure this much heartbreak in one lifetime.

My heart is so heavy, so broken my beautiful, sweet husband and the most gentle, loving and kind daddy to our 3 girls passed away yesterday.

I just can’t fathom how this is real, how you are no longer here on earth, I wish you could see how loved you are, how missed you already are.

You and the kids are my whole world I don’t know how I will go on without you by my side, I know I will, have to for the kids but this is not the way it was suppose to be babe, we still had a lifetime together.

I hope you are at peace now, I hope you have found our Aspen girl and are giving her the biggest hug, cuddle her for me and tell her Mummy loves her.

I love you endlessly babe, I wish my love and the love of your girls could have kept you here with us, my heart will forever ache for you.

Every single cent will help.

David CAMPBELL

Please help me help Michelle and her beautiful family for what’s ahead for her.

Sending you so much love Shell.

Rest Peacefully David, we will all miss you xx

You also made a significant contribution to NSW Police & the 100’s of young officers you nurtured, educated & worked side by side with. You were an amazing man, an amazing Aboriginal leader & will not be forgotten.

EMERGENCY service workers, police, residents, community groups and students said no to domestic violence during the White Ribbon Day convoy through the Campbelltown and Macquarie Fields regions on Friday.

A convoy of 10 vehicles carrying Campbelltown police, State Emergency Service members, Campbelltown Council staff as well as Burnside, Family and Community Services and Centrelink workers travelled from AB Central in Airds, to Campbelltown TAFE and Macarthur Square to spread the anti-violence message.

A similar convoy carrying groups including Macquarie Fields police travelled from Glenquarie Town Centre and visited Minto Marketplace and Eagle Vale Marketplace.

The two convoys met at Campbelltown Sports Stadium in a show of support before men took the White Ribbon Day oath to say no to violence against women.

Attendees also took part in a tug of war to build camaraderie.

Campbelltown police domestic violence officer Sen-Constable Carolynn Walters said the day was excellent and a great opportunity to raise awareness that there is no place in the community for domestic violence and violence against women.

Elise Marie CARTER nee Elise MONJO, Elise CARTER, Grommy. Raising awareness and showing their support during the White Ribbon Day convoy are Senior Constables Elise Carter and Dennis Hoyne with community members at Campbelltown Sports Stadium.

“Everyone came together on the day for this very important issue,’’ she said.

“When we were driving around there were always people there supporting us on the route.’’

Now in its third year, the convoy aims to foster community cohesion, trust and respect for all participants.

Police in Nielsen inquiry cleared

SYDNEY: Three senior policemen have been publicly cleared of corruption allegations raised against them at the Juanita Nielsen inquest.

The NSW Minister for Police, Mr Anderson, told State Parliament yesterday that an internal police inquiry had found no evidence to substantiate allegations made by Mr Jim Anderson, a former associate of Mr Abe Saffron, a Sydney businessman.

Mr Jim Anderson asserted in September last year that he had seen Mr Saffron make cash payments during the 1970s to a number of policemen, including Assistant Police Commissioner Jim Pyne, Detective Sergeant Brian Ballard and a licensing officer, Inspector Keith Dunlop.

The Minister quoted Deputy Commissioner John Perrin who, with Executive Chief Superintendent Russ Sadler, conducted the investigation, as saying, “There is no evidence available to substantiate any of the allegations made by Anderson. . . or that any of the police and former police referred to by him have in any way been guilty of improper conduct”.

The Minister said that since Mr Jim Anderson was “involved in criminal proceedings it would be inappropriate to comment on any detail” of the investigation.
