Ernest KELLY Obituary (2020) – Legacy Remembers

Hi Greg, I saw this on Day of the Roses – Granville Disaster FB page and thought you might be interested:

Granville continues…. A couple of years ago (I think) I travelled north to meet a frail 90+ man named Ernest J Kelly.

You see, during research and comradeship with many, his daughter arranged our meeting.

Ernie was the original police forensic photographer on the day who was stationed at Parramatta. He was not only responsible for the pics but was instrumental in building the mock train set for the inquiry, which he received a commendation for.

His daughter who is completing her Paramedic Degree informed me that after an ageing illness, Ernie passed away this week.

On behalf of the Granville Train Disaster Association and myself, we will continue to celebrate his life and thank him for his service.

R.I.P.

  • I knew Ernie when we worked at Orange in the 1960’s. He was a gentleman and a fine scientific officer. RIP Ernie

  • Ernie was natures gentleman. He was a Police Officer first and a tremendous scientific investigator second. He made a number of scale models for the assistance of investigators and the coroner. One of those models was of Bathurst gaol and the Granville train disaster. It is very sad to hear of his passing, notwithstanding it was 4 years ago. May Ernie Forever Rest in Eternal Peace.
