Sad news. RIP Stephen. I didnt know Stephen personally but I did my police training with his father Barry Hardwick. Class 119 1969 Redfern Academy. Police training centre as it was then known. I can relate to PTSD. The police heirachy does little to help its traumatised members. They just see you as an annoyance. Someone to get rid of. We all suffer PTSD to some degree. I left after 28 years. Stress. They sent me to see a couple of shrinks….both agreed with my own Psychiatrist. Police department head serangs wrote to one of them saying…I was too stressed to go to work but went to USA for holiday whilst I was on stress leave. A total lie…yes went to USA but on my annual leave not whilst on stress leave. I guess they lied to the doctor hoping it would paint me in a poor light, sway his decision. They sent me a letter saying my illness was approved as hod. Six weeks later another letter saying,…….reviewed the decision….now not hod….return any medical expenses to police. Refused to tell me why. Retired medical discharge not hod. They then did a go slow and forced me to wait 6 months to approve my pension. And they wonder why serving and retired police are taking their own lives. Dosent take a genius to work it out. Hope Adele dosent have to wait 6 months when I die. Recently underwent radiation treatment for cancer but still hanging in.
