Ex-Superintendent Harry C. Trenchard, who a few years ago was police inspector in charge of Parramatta district, died at his residence, ” Sedenan, ” Gordon street and Railway terrace, Petersham, on the 3rd August. He was in his 62nd year.
Mr. Trenchard was in his younger days an English solider – one of Lord Wolseley‘s cavalry force that took part in the battle of Tel-el-Kebir and other important military movements in the Egyptian campaign of the time.
He came out from England afterwards, and took an important position on the staff of officers training the police of Australia.
He made a number of friends whilst in Parramatta, but of course his public life was confined to the negotiation of official duties.
