I would to relate a really nice story about the great Ken Magnus. As cadets he really helped us all. Later when we knew him in the big world he was at 21 Division as a lot of us ex cadets were going through 21. He was again a very good shoulder for the guys to lean on.
As all you guys would remember Ken had a very deep voice, a very distinctive voice. Remember he would say in our shorthand classes ‘The Honourable Member for Parliament’ and you wrote down the advanced phrase. But his voice was very distinctive because it was so deep.
Anyway the story I wanted to tell you goes back to about 12 years ago when I went with a team of mates on a golf trip at Tea Gardens/Hawkes Nest. The first night we were staying at the Tea Gardens Hotel. We were drinking in the public bar and I was standing with a big group of mates and I could hear behind me this guy talking to a couple of blokes and he had this very distinctive voice, very deep. After a while I could still hear this deep voice behind me and I knew it was Ken Magnus Ali’s The Brewery. So I turned around and could see it was Ken so I snuck up behind him and said in my deepest voice, ‘The Honourable Member for Parliament’. He spun around and said, ‘Cadet who?’ Then he recognised me and we had a big hug, another 10 schooners, lots of old talk. A beautiful night.
I was with Ken talking about the old cadet days and all the famous characters. A really great, great night. That was the last time I saw him. A beautiful bloke.

Nothing further, than what is recorded above, is known about this person at the time of publication and further information and photos would be appreciated.

John do you know the cause of death…. I had a long standing relationship with Ken. 40yrs ago. . I have some memorabilia from his day’s racing at Homebush…plus photo’s of him and his dad coming second 🥈 at the police cycling championship…third in the team event with Barry Klyne…. I thought that maybe DANE or KIM might like these. have no connection except that Ken and partner lived at Tea Gardens….regards Robyn Hobson
